Custom build in Witchcliffe Ecovillage

This beautiful, custom-designed family home features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 1 study. The kitchen, dining, and living area boast an open floor concept with vaulted ceilings and large windows, allowing for an abundance of natural light. This construction includes a ventilated roof and wall cavity, slab edge insulation, double-glazed windows and doors, and insulation combined with a Pro Clima weather membrane.

The vision

Alethea and Tim wanted a home that embodied sustainability, thermal efficiency, and future-proofing in the Witchcliffe Ecovillage. Their vision was to create a modest yet eco-friendly living space that would support a sustainable lifestyle for years to come.

They desired a home that not only performed well in terms of energy use but also offered long-term adaptability to meet their evolving needs. Their goal was to design a home that would balance comfort, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility while blending seamlessly with the community-focused ethos of the ecovillage.

The problem

The couple initially considered pre-designed homes, but the options they found didn’t meet their thermal efficiency goals or provide the level of control they wanted over the design.

They were also cautious about working with builders, as they were concerned about the risk of not meeting their expectations in terms of quality and budget control. The fluctuating costs of construction were also a major concern, so they sought a solution that would provide both clarity and security throughout the project.

The solution

Alethea and Tim chose to partner with Eco Homes Group for their customisable design process.

Together, they created a tailored plan that prioritised thermal efficiency without sacrificing functionality. A fixed-price contract ensured the budget remained under control, and the modular build approach offered both cost-effectiveness and precision.

The Eco Homes Group team oversaw the entire process—from design to construction—ensuring clear and consistent communication, with regular updates to keep Alethea and Tim in the loop every step of the way.

The result

The finished home achieved an outstanding 9.4-star energy rating, meeting Alethea and Tim’s strict thermal efficiency goals.

The design incorporated an open-plan living area, large north-facing windows, a solar pergola, and a deck—each element strategically placed to optimise natural light and thermal performance.

The couple also had the opportunity to personalise their home by selecting their own fixtures and fittings. Living in the Witchcliffe Ecovillage not only provided them with a sustainable, eco-friendly home but also a sense of community that perfectly complemented their
