A humble beginning in one of the most stylish countries on earth
Although Marco Tassi, the founder of Eco Homes Group, grew up in Italy, his childhood was restrained by a strict family budget. “I noticed this most in Winter,” he remembers. “When the temperature dropped, and we didn’t have money for heating.”
Italy’s temperature can exceed 40 degrees in Summer but often drops below zero in Winter. And although most homes are built to cope with these extremes, Marco’s family home was not. All these years later he recalls, “I hated feeling cold all the time.”
Mastering millimetres in massive projects
After university, Marco went on to build a successful career in civil engineering. He worked on many projects and quickly learned that attention to detail is critical.
He also learned how to follow proven processes, meet strict deadlines, and manage resources to finish projects within budget.
Australia: a shock in more than one way
Like most people who move to Australia, Marco was awestruck by the size and space (Australia is more than 20 times the size of Italy yet has less than half the population). And naturally he was intrigued by all the unusual animals. But the thing that really surprised him was the houses (and not in a good way).
Although his family home in Italy was modest, he was accustomed to the quality of European designs, which seamlessly blend innovation with tradition, style with function, and efficiency with affordability.
